What setting holds more memories for most people than that of meal time? Sights, smells and tastes all come together in the sacred moments of sharing our lives with those seated at a table with us.
At Mother of Good Counsel Home, we strive to make dining a home-like experience in which our togetherness can bear fruit, both in the delicious, nutritious food that is eaten and the fellowship that is shared. Home-cooked meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner – are served in well-lit, pleasant dining rooms on each floor. For those who need additional assistance, there is a separate dining area on both our second and third floors. Residents may also opt to enjoy a meal in their own room. Residents are encouraged to take their meals in the common dining rooms and enjoy the companionship of their fellow residents, but if sleeping a little later in the morning suits them, meals may be served in their rooms.
All meals are prepared in our own kitchen. Special consideration is given to residents with particular needs and preferences. Our consultant Registered Dietician comes monthly to oversee each resident’s diet, offering suggestions and recommendations for each individual’s optimal health. While all meals are nutritionally balanced, a resident may request a favorite food or snack to be brought in or made available. We advise family members and friends to consult first with the nurse before bringing in or requesting additional food or snacks.
A sample breakfast could be biscuits and gravy, bacon and eggs with toast, or pancakes or waffles with butter and syrup. A hot lunch offers everything from home-cooked lasagna to chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. Dinner may be a little more simple, but just as filling and delicious with pizza, hamburgers or baked fish. Lunch and dinner are complete with salad, fruit, and bread or roll, as well as a tasty dessert. Since our Sisters eat the same food as our residents, we believe it is quality control at its finest!
