What do you picture when you think of a nursing home? Most images of skilled nursing facilities that first come to mind might elicit some negative responses. Many people feel afraid or even ashamed when picturing a transition into a nursing home.
If you are feeling any of these things, you are not alone. We have walked with many residents and families through the process of coming to the Home. There is a supportive environment here to welcome you: other families who have been through the same, residents who reach out and welcome their new neighbors, Mission Partners who care about your needs through this time, and specific people who are committed to helping you through every step.
Our vision at Mother of Good Counsel Home is one of hope and enthusiasm because we see each person that passes through our doors as a gift sent from God. Each one is capable of loving much and being loved much. At the Home, we believe that love is essential to the flourishing of life.

Each person’s journey is different. Some residents live and flourish here for many, many years. Some residents come in those latter days of life when the veil between heaven and earth is thinning. Some residents take unexpected turns on the journey and recover for a time what was thought to be lost forever! God is the creator and sustainer of each life, and we are here in His service to bring care, comfort, and companionship as God allows His intentions for each person to unfold in our midst. In this context, residents are here to “live fully and peacefully prepare for their final journey to the Father.” Ours is a sacred and profound privilege!

What is living fully?
Our greatest desire for our residents is that they can flourish at our Home. Being involved with activities, spiritual opportunities, and engaging with others during meals are all ways in which we aspire to create a life-giving community for our residents.
Our vision incorporates all aspects of clinical care, community, and spiritual life in a holistic way of life that can be adjusted according to each resident’s capabilities and interests.
It is one of our greatest joys to watch a resident regain previous capabilities, participate at a higher level, and take joy in the opportunities that the daily life at the Home affords our residents. There are many a “miracle” that we have seen with our own eyes as residents come to us, make their home here, and receive the care that is appropriate for their needs. We work hard to perfect our model that helps people flourish… but the secret ingredient that makes all the difference is the love that comes from our love for Jesus!
