May 2026

This Month…
In the Catholic Church, the month of May is dedicated to The Blessed VIrgin Mary.
The Holy Father’s intentions for this March 2026 are that everyone may have food. Let us pray for commitment to reducing food waste and ensuring quality food access.
Where Life Flourishes
By Sister M. Anselma

Dear Families and Friends!
When I first came to the Home, one experience helped me see on a deeper level what God does here! It was one of the first admissions after I arrived… a particularly difficult case. I remember how our new resident was the day he came… already on hospice, non-responsive, pressure wounds from his long illness, etc. He wasn’t expected to make through the next few days. His family was distraught, exhausted, and overwhelmed. As a team, we wrapped our arms around them. The nurses and aides took tender care of our new resident, obtaining the right equipment and better treatments for him, making him comfortable, spending time with him, etc. We listened to the family as they processed their previous attempts to care for him at home, and we encouraged them to get some sleep!
A few days later, I walked into this resident’s room to put something on his dresser. With my back to the bed, I heard a voice from behind me say, “Can I get a cup of coffee?” What!!?? I turned around and found, to my surprise, that our resident had awoken for the first time since he came to the Home! He was awake, lucid, and craving coffee!!
A week later I sat next to his wife at the bedside and asked how she was doing. As tears filled her eyes, she told me that he had spoken to each of their adult children that day… meaningful conversations that they hadn’t shared with him in over two months. She said, “We have him back.” Before they came to the Home, they didn’t think they would ever converse with him again in this life. My own tears matched hers as she thanked me for this gift. I could only say, “Thank God… He does powerful things at this Home!” This is a place where life flourishes!
When it came time to refresh the expression of our Mission with a new Mission Statement, we adopted the tagline, “Mother of Good Counsel Home… Where Life Flourishes.” The above story is only one of sooo many I could tell you!
This year, I am happy to share another example of how life flourishes at the Home!! In 2026, we celebrate with six residents who turn 100 years old!! In addition, we have one resident that will turn 102, and one that will turn 103!! That is over 10% of our residents who will be 100 years old or more!! They are such a gift, and we are grateful to help them flourish into their 2nd century of life!
In His Merciful Heart,
